Latina Contest

The school year is about to begin and parents everywhere need to prepare. It’s time again to buy new clothes, school supplies and sports equipment, and to start the lunch-packing, after-school practice and homework rituals all over again. But while shopping for books seems like a natural this time of year, there’s another natural that can become the conscientious parent’s best friend: 100% pure honey. Not only does this golden elixir enhance the taste of many brownbag lunches, but unbeknownst to many parents, honey can become a child’s best ally during sports practice and even help him or her soothe a sore throat.

To encourage parents and kids everywhere to try and find out more about the multiple uses of honey, especially as it relates to back to school, the National Honey Board has launched the “Honey My Way” contest. Consumers can submit their favorite honey recipe in up to two categories: (1) as a kid-friendly snack or meal recipe or (2) their favorite creative use of honey recipe (i.e. recipe for throat soother, sports drink, etc.). The winner of the kid snack/meal entry will win $1,000 and the winner of the creative use recipe will receive $500.

“100% pure honey offers a variety of uses for school-aged children and their parents,” says Bruce Wolk, National Honey Board, Director of Marketing. “While honey’s delicious taste entices little ones to enjoy a variety of foods, its energy properties can help them stay on the game during sports practice and even soothe a sore throat when the cold-flu season hits.”

The “Honey My Way” contest kicks off August 3, 2009 and runs through September 25th. Recipes will be judged on their creativity/originality and use of 100% pure honey. The winner of the meal/snack category will receive a prize of $1,000 in cash and the winner of the creative use category will receive $500. To submit your honey recipes, log on to www.mielpura.org and click on the “Miel A Mi Manera” icon to submit your entry through September 25th 2009, for a chance to win.
